FOI 2024/25-084 - Money paid to senior officers who have retired in the last five years

Issued 4 December 2024, this FOI response advises that some information on money paid out to senior officers who have retired in the last five years is already available in the Authority's Annual Report and Accounts. It confirms the Authority does not hold information in relation to Assistant Chief Constables and advises that Police Scotland may hold information.

Response

The Scottish Police Authority has considered your request for information and is able to provide the following.

The Authority holds information relevant to your request which can reasonably be obtained.

We have interpreted your request to relate to any payments, other than pension commutations payments, made to senior officers when they retire or leave the force. The remuneration report in the Annual Report and Accounts discloses payments made by the Authority to senior police officers on their retirement or exit from the service.

To assist, a link is provided to our Annual Report and Accounts for the previous five years and relevant payments are listed below.

2023-24 – see page 99

Chief Constable Sir Iain Livingstone received pay in lieu of holiday on his departure within the range of £0-£5k.

Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor received pay in lieu of holiday on her departure within the range of £0-£5k.

2022-23 – see page 105

Deputy Chief Constable William Kerr received pay in lieu of holiday on his departure within the range of £10-£15k.

No payments were recorded in 2019-20, 2020-21 or 2021-22.

Any police officer who retires and is a member of a police pension scheme will normally be eligible for a lump sum pension commutation upon retirement based on the scheme rules.
