Research indicates that confidence in Scottish policing is lower in areas classed as deprived. The Authority and Police Scotland are looking to work with communities in areas of socio-economic deprivation to gain an understanding of confidence in policing in these areas.
It is anticipated that this project will run until April 2024 and it is hoped that initiatives developed through this project could be applied to other areas across Scotland.

Deprivation level in this project is assessed via the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. This index uses a range of data relating to income, employment, education, health, access to services, crime and housing. Therefore, there can be many different reasons for an area to be identified as “deprived”. For more information on the index, please see here: Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)
