Overall crime in Scotland in 2023-24
The number of crimes recorded by the police is one of our key performance measures for policing in Scotland.
Alongside this we also look at the number of these crimes that have been solved by the police, known as the detection rate.
475,584 crimes recorded in 2023-24:
- 3% increase from last year
- 0.2% higher than the 5-year average
65% of crimes detected in 2023-24:
- slightly lower than 67% last year
- lower than the 5-year average of 68%
These figures are reported throughout the year to our Policing Performance Committee. You can access all papers on our website, and can view the meetings themselves on our YouTube channel.
