Response

By way of explanation, applications for Ill-Health Retirement submitted by or on behalf of police officers, and applications for Injury on Duty Awards submitted by or on behalf of police officers/former police officers are dealt with by Police Scotland on behalf of the Authority.

We have interpreted your request referring to ‘independent medical referee(s)’ as a reference to Police Medical Appeal Boards (PMABs) which determine appeals by individuals against decisions of Selected Medical Practitioners. Again, it is Police Scotland which refers appeals to PMABs for determination.

Information may be available by contacting Police Scotland at foi@scotland.police.uk
