Body Worn Video
In October 2024, a collaborative partnership was formed with the Body Worn Video project team to develop a policy focused on the consent process for recording initial reporting with both adult and child victims of sexual offences. The primary aim of this initiative was to implement a victim-centred approach that accurately reflects the emotional distress associated with these crimes while maximising essential evidentiary opportunities. (Lord Advocate Reference 1 of 2023).
Following the Lord Advocate's Reference 1 of 2023, this initiative aims to substantially bolster the evidence accumulation for rape and serious sexual offences. In circumstances where recent distress is apparent, officers must carefully document and capture this alongside the victim’s statement.
