Review of Committee Effectiveness
A review of Committee performance is a beneficial way to provide a constructive view of its work and to enhance its effectiveness. Each Committee of the Authority prepares an annual report on the discharge of its responsibilities based on its terms of reference and workplan. The purpose of these reports is to provide evidence that the Authority, supported by its committees, has satisfactorily met its responsibilities for the governance of policing through the application of its governance principles.
Complaints & Conduct Committee Members considered an evaluation of Committee effectiveness for the period 2023-24, agreeing that there had been improvement in each area of focus from the 2022-23 review, its work reflecting organisational priorities, with visibility on areas of high public interest and a focus on organisational culture, capacity and capability. In terms of scope for further improvement, Members noted the following areas:
• Timeliness of response to Committee actions
• Whilst the work of the Committee is appropriately transparent, there may be scope for more to be heard in public
Whilst report quality is improving, there is more work to do in this regard.
