QUARTERLY PERFORMANCE REPORT

Members noted the paper, with Tom McMahon providing an overview. The following points were highlighted and discussed:

• Members asked whether there is a sense of a time when the benefits of the work undertaken with regards to fraud and digital crime will be visible. Tom McMahon advised that the Policing in a Digital World strategy has an expected horizon of 5-10 years with development of activities and results expected throughout.
• Members noted that some individuals will remain vulnerable throughout this period and asked whether direct communications with the public will be undertaken. Police Scotland assured members that this does take place and will continue throughout the period of the Policing in a Digital World strategy. Members suggested that a deeper dive in to this in the future would be helpful
• In response to questions from Members on public confidence and the variance in sample sizes, Police Scotland provided examples of the range of surveys and activities which are undertaken throughout the year.
• Members noted the escalation of the recording of sexual crime and Police Scotland provided Members with an update on the work in progress in this area and the wide range of factors and reasons why the recording of these types of crimes have increased, including the potential of increased confidence in reporting these crimes.
• Members discussed the high level nature of parts of the report and requested that a series of deep dives on key themes and priority areas are planned in over the course of the performance year
• Members expressed their desire to better understand the impact resourcing decisions have on performance.

Members noted the report and agreed the following action:
