Use of Recorded Police Warnings in policing

The Scottish Police Authority convened a webinar with key stakeholders to discuss the use of Recorded Police Warnings (RPW) by policing.

Topic: Policy

Recorded Police Warnings (RPW) were introduced in January 2016. The RPW scheme allows officers to issue warnings to those aged 16 or over, either on the spot or retrospectively, for a wide range of offences.

The Scottish Police Authority and Police Scotland hosted a webinar on Wednesday 11 December to discuss the use of recorded police warnings and other direct measures in policing.

The webinar was streamed live to the Authority's YouTube channel.

Input from a range of stakeholders informed the discussion, including the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, Edinburgh University and Community Justice Scotland.

The panel took questions submitted by the public covering a range of issues including what offences warnings can be issued for and those that can't; the data collected to support public confidence and assurance of their use and the discretion used by officers to issue recorded police warnings.
