Martyn Evans, Chair of the Scottish Police Authority has announced that he will step down at the end of his current 4-year appointment term on 31 January 2025.
Mr Evans has led the Authority's Board as Chair since February 2021. He joined the Authority in June 2018 as a Board member.
Announcing his retirement at the Authority's board meeting in Glasgow on Thursday 22 August, he said: “I have informed the Cabinet secretary of my decision, the chief constable, the chief executive, and board members.
“In my view, 2025 is a right time for a new chair to work with the board to build on our shared agenda of continuous improvement, financial prudence and delivery of the second phase of strategic police and forensic services reform.”
The Scottish Government is expected to announce a recruitment process for a new chair in late September.
Mr Evans said: “I still have five months to serve, and I look forward to those months, working together with the same high levels of mutual commitment, respect, good humour and optimism.”
The Authority's Chief Executive, Lynn Brown also confirmed to the Board her own intention to retire in 2025. Ms Brown has been in post since 2019 and intends to support the induction of a new chair and allow a recruitment process prior to retiring by Autumn 2025.
