An annual survey of the Scottish public has revealed that 87% of respondents had trust in police in Scotland, with 72% of respondents also expressing trust in the justice system. In the same survey 96% of respondents rated the area they lived in as a very or fairly good place to live. 

The 2020 Scottish Household Survey (SHS) was carried out during the coronavirus pandemic when policing was playing a critical and visible role in supporting the public health response to reduce the spread of the virus.The SHS is an annual, cross-sectional survey that provides insight on the composition, characteristics, attitudes and behaviour of private households and individuals as well as evidence on the physical condition of Scotland’s homes.

The SHS asks questions of a random sample of people in private residences in Scotland. Traditionally questions are asked by an interviewer in homes all over Scotland, however due to coronavirus restrictions during fieldwork for the latest SHS, interviews were conducted by telephone.
