£1.6 billion budget set for policing in 2025/26

The Board of the Scottish Police Authority met today, Thursday 27 March 2025 to consider and approve a £1.6 billion budget for policing in the year ahead.

The Scottish Police Authority has today, Thursday 27 March 2025, set a £1.6 billion budget for policing in 2025/26.

The total budget is made up of:

  • £1,480.6 million revenue funding, including national insurance and additional reform/ modernisation funding
  • £20.3m reform funding
  • £70m capital funding

The revenue spending (£1,480.6 million) is made up of:

  • £1,427.7 million to Police Scotland (96.4%)
  • £47.4 million to SPA Forensic Services (3.2%)
  • £5.5 million to SPA Corporate (0.4%)

The budget will support a policing workforce with circa 16,500 police officers and an average of 5,900 staff FTE.
